The Culture at Energility

Justin and Craig started Energility with the idea of earning a living while following their passion of lowering environmental disruption. They wanted their company to have a culture that was fun and kind to all while focused on the mission. They wanted their company to share flexibility with everyone, not just those at the management level. They would be a team, not just in words but in actions. Ultimately, they wanted their company to have a mission and a future their team could believe in.

In 2015, this idea became Energility.

Our Energility team believes in energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy and that every action (even tiny ones) makes a difference for our future. These are practices that are done both in our home lives as well as our professional lives. Each person has our individual “why” that gives us passion for this work.  Some of these include:

  • Creation care – aligns with faith
  • Future generations – it is their future we are affecting
  • Climate change – it is affecting our planet and all who reside on it now and in the future

The ability to both make a difference in this world and earn a living creates an exciting work environment.

Our team has grown over the past 7 years, from two tiny closet-like offices to the larger office we have today. Remote work at Energility did not start with a worldwide pandemic; this flexibility started day one and is for everyone on the team. Flexibility in how we do our work is not a special privilege. Each person decides when or if remote work is something that works for them both in how to collaborate or take time to focus. There are many valid reasons our team uses this flexibility for: illness, family dynamics, most productive work hours, being an introvert that needs a quiet space, save gas on commuting, etc.

We approach our work with a performance-based strategy where we share in the success and the struggle. Our energy efficiency and sustainability work does not require us to punch a time clock. We solve problems; sometimes these problems are more easily solved and at other times require more intense work. When we do well, we all benefit. When we struggle, we all work to re-build or correct our course. Either way, we all work to achieve a common goal.

In our office space Justin, Molly, and Craig are visible and accessible to allow for questions, open communication, and feedback. Being a team and the trust that goes with it is central to our work environment as it creates a space where learning and growing is the norm, not the exception. In a growing industry, this allows us to continue on our mission to help organizations of all sizes make a difference in this world too.

We respect and trust our team to know what works best for them and makes them more productive. We strive to truly be a team that is making positive steps forward to lessen environmental disruption.
