Where to get started?

No Cost & Low Cost Actions to Save Energy

Lighting

Upgrade fluorescent and incandescent to LEDs.
Use occupancy sensors or add signage to turn off lights.

Heating & Cooling

Set up schedule to change filters on equipment.
When it is time to replace equipment, make sure it is the “right size” for your building because more is not always better.

Building Envelope (roof, walls, windows, doors)

Replace failed weatherstripping.
Check for leaking energy. Is water or air getting in the building?

Temperature Controls

Install a smart/programmable thermostat.
Turn thermostat up 2 degrees in the summer and down 2 degrees in the winter.

Renewable Energy

Solar tax credits are available to nonprofit organizations (yes, even though they do not pay taxes).

Two options are available:

direct pay as a refundable tax payment OR
transfer of credits through a power purchase agreement
